The 5 year olds have discovered that they can paint with magnets! They use magnets to drag nails and clips through the paint to create patterns! They also answered Carla's question of whether or not a magnet can pick up keys through an open window. The answer is yes, but only if it is close enough!

Los niños/as de 5 años han descubierto que pueden pintar con imanes. Puden usar imanes para arrastrar uñas y clips a traves de la pintura para crear moldes.También respondieron a la pregunta de Carla de si un imán pude o no lcoger unas llaves a través de una ventana abierta. La respuesta es si pero solo si está lo suficientemente cerca.

Aqui están los niños/as de 5 años con su versión de la canción sobre imanes. Es muy dificil pero lo hacen muy bien.

Today, the four year olds went for a walk around the school, looking for anything magnetic. They had lots of fun!
Hoy los niños/as de 4 años fueron a dar un paseo por el colegio buscando cosas magnéticas. Lo pasaron muy bien.
Experimentar es la mejor forma de aprender.

Magnets

Today the 5 year olds answered the question: what do we want to know about magnets?

Oscar: if a ball gets stuck in a tree, can a magnet get it down?
Ivan and Jaime: can magnets pick up staples?
Natalia: is it quicker to pick up screws with magnets?
Ismael and Celia: can magnets stick to metal?
Carla: if a star falls down, can we catch it with a magnet? and if you leave your keys inside, and a window is open, can you get them with a magnet?
Oscar: if two people have two magnets and they get stuck, are they stuck together forever?
Ivan: can magnets pick up spoons?
Natalia: can magnets pick up a hammer?
Rocio: can they pick up a scarf?
Luna: can they pick up a hat?
Hugo: can they stick to a watch or clock?
Cristian: can they stick to a cup?

To find out, we did some experiments.
The first one: can magnets pick up balls? (related to Oscar's question).
We tried with three different balls and two different magnets, but NO, the magnets didn't stick to the balls.
Ivan had the idea of adding a clip to the ball, to see if the magnet could pick it up. Pablo suggested using sticky-tape to stick the clips to the balls.
We then tried again. YES, the magnet stuck to the clip, but NO, it didn't pick up the balls. We decided that the balls were too heavy for the magnets.

We then tried to discover if two people could be stuck together forever with magnets. Paula and Oscar tried, but NO, they didn't get stuck!

Then we tried with a hat, a scarf, a hammer, a watch, a cup, and staples. Natalia and Ismael recorded the results:
Hat: no.
Hammer: yes.
Scarf: no.
Watch: no.
Cup: no.
Staples: yes.

Then we discussed whether or not they stuck to children.
We passed some magnets around, and by chance we found that the magnets stuck to Natalia's hairclip and Ainslie's earring!

Hoy los niños/as de 5 años contestaron a la pregunta: "¿Qué queremos saber sobre imanes/magnetismo?"

Oscar: si un balón se queda atascado en un árbol, ¿podemos bajarlo ocn un imán?

Ivan and Jaime: ¿pueden los iamnes coger grapas?

Natalia:¿es más rápido coger tornillos con imanes?

Ismael and Celia: ¿se pegan los imanes al metal?

Carla: si se cae una estrella, ¿podemos cogerla con un imán?i y si te dejas las llaves dentro y una ventana está abierta ¿las puedes coger con un imán?

Oscar: si dos personas tienes dos imanes y se pegan, ¿se quedan pegadas para siempre?

Iván: ¿pueden los imanes coger cucharas?

Natalia: ¿pueden los imanes coger un martillo?

Rocío: ¿pueden coger una bufanda?

Luna: ¿pueden coger un sombrero?

Hugo: ¿pueden pegarse a un reloj?

Cristian: ¿pueden pegarse a una taza?

Para investigar realizamos algunos experimentos.

El primero: ¿pueden los iamnes coger balones?(relativo a la pregunta de Óscar). lo intentamos con 3 balones diferentes y dos imanes diferentes, pero NO,los imanes no se pegan a los balones.

Iván tuvo la idea de añadir un clip al balón,par ver si así el imán podría cogerlo.

Pablo sugirió pegar lso clips con celo a los balones. Y lo intentamos de nuevo. Si los imanes se pegaron al clip pero no pudieron levantar los balones. Decidimos que los balones son demasiado pesados para los imanes.

Después intentamos descubrir si dos personas se pueden pegar con imanes para siempre. Paula y Óscar lo probaron, pero NO ellos no se pegaron.

Luego lo probamos con un sombrero,una bufanda, un martillo, un reloj, una taza y grapas. Natalia and Ismael grabaron los resultados:

-Sombrero: no.

-Martillo: si

-Bufanda: no.

-Reloj: no.

-Taza: no.

-Grapas: si.

Luego discutimos si se pegaban o no a los niños. Pasamos algunos imanes a nuestro alrededor y por casualidad descubrimos que los imanes se pegan a las horquillas del pelo de Natalia y a los pendientes de Ainslie.



We are really enjoying this unit on magnets.

Realmente estamos disfrutando mucho con esta unidad de imanes.

Magnets.

The 4 and 5 year olds are learning about magnets for the science project.

The 5 year olds are doing different activities:
Science table: testing objects to see if they are magnetic and completing a report.
Maths table: fishing with magnets.
Creative table: cut and paste magnet activity.
Writing table: writing useful vocabulary.
Games table: creating magnetic words with the magnetic letters.

The 4 year olds answered the question "what do we want to know about magnets?"
Angela: do magnets stick to elephants?
Pablo L: do magnets stick to dinosaurs?
Gloria: do magnets stick to tigers?
Adrian: do magnets stick to snowmen?
Nieves: do magnets stick to giraffes?
Angel Manuel: do magnets stick to metal robots?
Irene: do magnets stick to pipes?

We decided to find out if magnets stick to animals. Sergio and Hector J both said that magnets don't stick to animals because they are made of meat and bones, a continuation of yesterday's conversation. We then thought of how we could test this. It is very difficult to bring elephants, dinosaurs, tigers and giraffes to school! We tried to think of other things that are made of meat and bones....suddenly we realised that WE ARE!! We passed a magnet around the circle to see if it stuck to us, but it didn't! We then came to the conclusion that magnets don't stick to animals, because they don't stick to people!

We then played a game of fishing with the magnets. We had to try and get the magnet on the paperclip, because magnets stick to clips, not paper. The children really enjoyed this activity!

Tomorrow the investigations continue!

Los niños/as de 4 y 5 años están aprendiendo sobre magnetismo en el proyecto documental integrado sobre ciencias.

Lo s de 5 años están realizando diferentes actividades:

Mesa de ciencias: comprobar si diferentes objetos son magneticos y completar un informe

Mesa de matemáticas: pescar con imanes.

Mesa de creatividad: actividad de cortar y pegar con imanes.

Mesa de escritura:escribir el vocabulario necesario.

Mesa de juegos: crear palabras sobre magnetismo con letras de imán.

Los niños/as de 4 años contestaron a la pregunta: ¿Qué sabemos sobre los imanes/el magnetismo?

Angela: ¿ se pegan los imanes a los elefantes?

Pablo L: do magnets stick to dinosaurs?Gloria: ¿se pegan alos tigres?

Adrián: ¿se pegan alos muñecos de nieve?

Nieves: ¿se pegan a las jirafas?

Angel Manuel: ¿se pegan alos robots de metal ?

Irene: se pegan a las tuberías?

Decidimos averiguar si los imanes se pegan a los animales.

Sergio and Hector J dijeron que los imanes no se pegan alos animales porque los animales están hechos de carne y huesos, continuando con la conversación de ayer.

Luego pensamos como podríamos comprobar esto. ¡Es díficil traer elefantes, dinosaurios, tigres y jirafas al colegio! Pensamos que otras cosas podría haber que estuvieran hechas de carne y huesos... de repeente nos dimos cuenta de que NOSOTROS!! (LAS PERSONAS).

Pasamos un imán alrededor de la circunferencia que formamos al sentarnos para ver si se pegaba a nosotros, pero no se pegó. Llegamos a la conclusión de que los imanes no se pegan a los animales, porque tampoco se pegan a las personas. Luego jugamos al juego de pescar con imanes. Teníamos que intentar coger con imanes un clip, porque los imanes se pegan a los clips no a los papeles. Los niños/as disfrutaron mucho con esta actividad. Mañana continuaremos la investigación.

Magnets: What do we know?

Today the 4 and 5 year olds began to learn about magnets.

Here are some responses to the question we asked: WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT MAGNETS?
4 year olds:

Irene: they stick to drawers.
Elena, Hector J, Jorge and Marta: they stick to the fridge.
Carla: Cranes have a magnet, they stick to things made of metal.
Clara C: they look like horseshoes.
Alejandro, Angel Manuel: they stick to metal/iron.
Gloria: some toys have magnets.

There was a very interesting discussion on whether or not magnets stick to elephants, but Sergio and Angel Manuel explained that elephants are made of meat and bones, so therefore, do not stick to magnets.

The 5 year olds also made some interesting comments:

Ivan: they can pick up things made of iron.
Carla: they stick to things.
Natalia: they can pick up metallic things that have fallen down.
Oscar: they are strong.
Ismael: when they get close to the fridge, they stick.
Victor: they can pick up coins.
Adrian: they can pick up metal plates.
Irene: they can stick to other magnets.

During the next two weeks we will be experimenting with magnets and their properties. It should be lots of fun!

Hoy los niños y niñas de 4 y 5 años han empezado a aprender sobre magnetismo.

Aqui tenéis algunas de sus respuestas a la pregunta: ¿QUÉ SABEMOS DE MAGNETISMO/IMANES?

4 AÑOS:

Irene: se pegan a los cajones.

Elena, Héctor J, Jorge y Marta: se pegan al frigorífico.

Carla: las grúas tienen imán, se pegan a las cosas hechas de metal.

Clara C: parecen herraduras.

Alejandro y Angel Manuel: se pegan al metal , al hierro.

Gloria: algunos juguetes tienen imanes.

Ha habido un interesante debate sobre si los imanes se pegan a los elefantes o no, pero Sergio y Angel Manuel nso han explicado que los elefantes están hechos de carne y huesos, asi que no se pueden pegar a ellos los imanes.

Los de 5 años han hechos también comentarios interesantes:

Iván: pueden coger cosas que están hechas de hierro.

Carla: se pegan a las cosas.Natalia: pueden coger objetos metálicos que se han caido.
Oscar: son fuertes.
Ismael: cuando están cerca del frigorífico se pegan.
Víctor: se pueden coger monedas.
Adrian: se pueden coger platos de metal
Irene: se pueden pegar a otros imanes.

Durante las próximas semanas haremos experimentos sobre imanes y sus propiedades. Será muy divertido.

This week the 4 and 5 year olds will start their science project on magnets.
This song introduces some useful vocabulary for this topic.

We will be doing some experiments over the next few weeks and will start the project by asking the children: What do we know about magnets?

Esta semana los niños y niñas de 4 y 5 años empezarán su proyecto documental de ciencias sobre magnetismo.

Con esta canción introduciremos el vocabulario necesario sobre el tema.

Haremos algunos experimentos en las próximas semanas y empezaremos el proyecto preguntando a los niños: "¿Qué sabemos sobre magnetismo?".
