ENFERMERA/NURSE

We also had a visit from Pilar, the mother of Daniel (5 year group) who is a nurse in the operating room. She started by telling us a story about an animal who didn't know what she wanted to be when she grew up. Her friends wanted to be teachers and vets, but she didn't know what she wanted to be. One day, her friend got sick and she looked after him, and in the end decided to become a nurse! It was a very beautiful story, the really enjoyed it! Then, she showed us the tools and instruments she uses in her job, and we got to try on surgery masks, hats and gloves. She showed us how to put a bandage on too!

También nos visitó Pilar, la madre de Daniel del grupo de 5 años que es enfermera de quirófano. Comenzó contándonos una historia sobre un animal que no sabía lo que queria ser de mayor. Sus amigos querían ser profesores o veterianrios, pero ella no sabía que aún qué quería ser. Un día su amigo se puso enfermo y ella le cuidó y al final decidió que quería ser enfermera. Fue una bonita historia con la que dsifrutamos. Luego nos mostró los utensilios que ella usa en su trabajo y nos pusimos las máscarillas, los gorros y los guantes de quirófano. También nos enseñó como poner vendas.

BOMBEROS

We also had a visit from two fireman! The three year olds have been working very hard learning about fireman, so it was fantastic to meet some real ones! Víctor, the father of Victor (three year old infantil class) and Juan José, the father of Nerea (4 year old infantil class) came to show us what they do in their job.
Some of the children were surprised and a little scared when they entered the library and found a doll laying on the ground! It was big enough to be a real person! The children calmed down when they realised it was only a doll, and Victor and Nerea introduced their fathers (without the helmets on!)
They showed us how they use a special tank full of oxygen to help them breathe when they go into a fire, and they showed us what a rescue looks like as they took the doll out to safety!
They showed us the special clothes they wear to protect them from the heat and flames, including gloves, jacket, trousers and boots. Some of us tried on the helmets and they gave us some very good advice:
When we see a fire, tell an adult and get out. That is all we have to do, we must never try to put it out or play with it, because it's very dangerous.

¡Nos visitaron dos bomberos! Los niños/as de 3 años habían estado trabajando mucho sobre los bomberos, asi que fue fantástico encontrarnos con unos reales. Víctor, el padre de Víctor de 3 años y Juan José el padre de Nerea de 4 años, vinieron a mostranos lo que hacen en su trabajo.
Algunos niños/as se sorprendieron mucho e incluso se asustaron cuando entraron en la biblioteca y se encontraron con un muñeco tirado en el suelo. ¡Era tan grande que parecía uan persona de verdad! Los niños/as se tranquilizaron cuando vieron que era solo un muñeco, y Víctor y Nerea nos presentaron a sus padres, (con sus cascos puestos).

Nos enseñaron como usan un tanque lleno de oxígeno para ayudarles a respirar cuando entran en un fuego y nos mostraron como si fuera un rescate real lo que hacen para poner a salvo a las personas utilizando de modelo al muñeco.

Nos enseñaron las ropas especiales que llevan para protegerse del calor y de las llamas, que incluye guantes, chaqueta, pantalones y botas. Algunos nos probamos los cascos y ellos nos dieron muy buenos consejos:

- Cuando veamos un fuego tenemos que llamar a los mayores y salir fuera. Esto es todo lo que debemos hacer y nunca intentar apagarlo ni jugar con el fuego porque es muy peligroso.

Alphabet Sounds

ANTONIO: VETERINARIO/VET

The children also learnt about vets. Antonio, the father of Celeste (5 year class) and Gloria (3 year class) is a professor in the university, and teaches veterinary studies. He showed us some pictures of different animals and explained that when animals get sick, they have to go to the doctor too, just like us. The special doctors for animals are called vets. He showed us the special clothes that a vet has to wear, including a mask and coat, and special shoes too. He showed us different bones too, from a dog and a horse (which was much bigger!) and he showed us a goat's skull, but the children were really surprised at seeing a cow's skull... it was huge! The children really enjoyed the visit, and learnt a lot about animals too!

Los niños/as también aprendimos sobre veterinarios. Antonio, el padre de Celeste (de la clase de 5 años) y de Gloria (de la clase de 3 años) es profesor en la Universidad, y enseña en la facultad de Veterinaria. Nos mostró dibujos de diferentes animales y nos explicó que cuando los animales están enfermos, también van al doctor,como nosotros. Los doctores de animales se llaman veterinarios.
Nos enseñó las ropas especiales que un veterianrio se pone, incluidas la mascarilla, la bata y unos zapatos especiales. No mostró diferentes huesos, de un perro y de un caballo (que es el más grande!) y también vimos el cráneo de una cabra, pero los niños/as se sorprendieron mucho cuando vieron el cráneo de una vaca... es enorme!
Los niños/as disfrutaron mucho de la visita y aprendieron mucho sobre los animales.

Mª VICTORIA: MODISTA/ DRESSMAKER

We had a lovely visit from Raquel's Grandmother, , who shared her job as a dressmaker with us. She showed us some clothes she had made and then showed us how to measure a person to make a dress. She cut out the pattern and we saw her using the sewing machine. The fabric came together like magic! She also showed us the different types of cotton and her thimble.

Tuvimos la agradable visita de la abuela de Raquel Salgado, de 5 años, quien compartió con nosotros su profesión de modista. Nos enseñó algunas de las ropas que ha hecho, (vestidos, faldones, gorritos de bebé...) y luego nos mostró como tomar medidas a una persona para hacer un vestido. Diseñó el patrón en papel, lo cortó y usó su máquina de coser. Las telas se juntaron como si fuera magia. También nos enseñó diferentes tipos de telas y su dedal.

It's Rainy

MÓNICA: PELUQUERA/ HAIRDRESSER

Another job we looked at was: Hairdresser.
We were very lucky to have a visit from Monica, the mother of Pablo Múñoz (3 year old infantil class) to teach us about her job as a hairdresser.
She showed us the different types of combs and brushes to use for different types of hair (straight or curly) and different scissors for different cutting styles. She also let us touch some hair rollers!
She gave some of the children plaits and braids, and used some gel on the boys to spike their hair up!
The children also got to try make up and nail polish. It was a lot of fun!

Otra de las profesiones que hemos observado ha sido la de peluquera.
Hemos sido muy afortunados de tener la visita de Mónica, la madre de Pablo Múñoz (de infantil 3 años) para enseñarnos como es su profesión de peluquera.
Ella nos mostró diferentes tipos de peines y cepillos para usar según los diferentes tipos de pelo(liso o rizado) y diferentes tijeras para hacer cortes de distintos estilos. ¡También nos permitió tocar los rulos!
Hizo coletas y trenzas a algunas niñas y usó gel para poner a los niños los pelos de punta.
Los niños también pudieron maquillarse y pintarse las uñas. ¡Fue muy divertido!

JOBS

La unidad didáctica que hemos desarrollado este mes ha sido: jobs, profesiones.
En el colegio siempre intentamos aprender todos de todos y esta vez hemos tenido unos maestros muy especiales: nuestros papás, mamás y abuelas.
Les pedimos colaboración a las familias y como siempre la respuesta ha sido estupenda.
Cada día un padre/madre/abuela ha venido a la biblioteca escolar para ayudarnos a aprender sobre las distintas profesiones. Además hemos podido ver, tocar y practicar con los diferentes instrumentos, herramientas y objetos que se utilizan en cada trabajo.

The didactic unit we have been working on this month is : jobs.
At school, we always try to learn from each other, and this time we have had some very special teachers: our parents and grandparents.
We asked for some help from the families, and as always, the response was fantastic!
Every day, a father, mother or grandmother came to the school library to help us learn about different jobs. Also, we could see, touch and use some of the different instruments, tools and objects that are used in different jobs.

La primera profesión que conocimos fue la de GUARDIA CIVIL. Alberto,el papá de Graciela, del aula de 3 años, y de Gloria de 2º de E. Primaria, nos contó que lo más importante de su profesión es que servía para ayudar a los demás:
- realizan salvamentos en el mar, en los ríos, en las montañas, en la nieve,
- detienen a los ladrones y a las personas que quieren hacer daño a otras,
- desactivan explosivos,
- encuentran a personas perdidas con ayuda de sus perros,
- salvan a las personas que vienen de lejos, en pateras,porque quieren vivir mejor. (No sabíamos que era eso de "pateras" pero Alberto nos lo explicó muy bien, son barcos muy pequeños, hechos con materiales poco resistentes en los que vienen muchas personas desde muy lejos y es muy peligroso).

Alberto también nos dio consejos para nuestra seguridad: no aceptar nunca regalos de desconocidos, estar siempre junto a papá y mamá cuando estamos en lugares muy grandes y no abrir nunca la puerta a nadie si estamos solos.

The first job we learnt about was: GUARDIA CIVIL. Alberto, the father of Graciela (3 year infantil class) and Gloria (2nd year primary) told us the most important part of his job is to help others:
-Sea, mountain, snow rescue
-Stop thieves and people who want to hurt other people
-Deactivate explosives
-Find missing people with the help of trained dogs
-Save people who travel in "pateras" (small unsafe boats)
Alberto also gave us some advice to keep safe. Don´t accept gifts from strangers, stay with mum and dad in crowded places and never open the door to anybody when we are home alone.

Certificates

Every Friday we count our stickers to see who has won a prize! Every 10 stickers gets a certificate and/or a small gift.
To get stickers, the children try really hard to speak English, sing the songs and work hard! But it's also important to listen to others and be nice to each other.
As you can see, many children have already got 10 stickers, and some are working towards 20!
Keep up the great work!

Cada viernes contamos las pegatinas para ver quién ha ganado un premio. Con cada 10 pegatinas conseguimos un certificado y/o un pequeño regalo.
Para conseguir pegatinas los niños/as intentan hablar mucho en inglés, cantar las canciones y trabajar duramente. También es muy importante escuchar a los demás compañeros/as y ser amables unos con otros.

Como podéis ver muchos niños/as han conseguido 10 pegatinas, y algunos están trabajando para llegar a 20. ¡Continuad con este magnífico trabajo!

Police

The four year olds have been busy learning about police, with the special help of Pablo the policeman and some fun games!
We have learnt new vocabulary, such as handcuffs, whistle, watch, binoculars, badge, headset and police hat. We have also started using more complicated phrases, such as black hat, green watch, grey binoculars, etc.
We had fun pretending to be policemen and we also enjoyed the "What's missing?" game.

Los niños/as de 4 años han estado aprendiendo sobre la policía, con la ayuda especial de Pablo, vestido de policía, y algunos juegos divertidos.

Hemos aprendido nuevo vocabulario, como "esposas, silbato, reloj, prismáticos, placa, equipo de escucha y sombrero de policía". También hemos empezado a decir frases más dificiles, añadiendo un adjetivo, como "sombrero negro, reloj verde,prismáticos, grises etc..."

Nos hemos divertido queriendo ser policías y también con el juego "¿Qué ha desaparecido?"

Doctors

The 5 year olds have been busy learning about doctors and nurses, and the equipment they use to check our health.
We role played "going to the doctor" and saying good morning, thank you, and goodbye.
We have learnt phrases including "to listen to the heart, to look in the ears/throat, to check the legs, to cut the bandage, to put the bandage on, to give an injection and to take the temperature". We also learnt to say "it hurts!" The children enjoyed practising bandaging and looking after each other. We also learnt to put our hands over our mouth to stop germs from spreading when we cough.

Los niños/as de 5 años han estado aprendiendo sobre doctores y enfermeras y el material que usan para chequear nuestra salud. Escenificamos "vamos al doctor" y dijeron buenos días, gracias y adios.

Hemos aprendido las frases "escuchar el corazón, mirar los oídos/la garganta, chequear las piernas, cortar vendas, poner una venda, poner una inyección y tomar la fiebre". También aprendimos a decir "me duele". Los niños/as disfrutaron haciendo vendajes y cuidándose unos a otros.

También aprendimos a poner la mano tapando nuestra boca para evitar que salgan los gérmenes cuando tosemos. Hicimos un experimento: con un globo lleno de papelitos, que simulaba nuestra boca, y que al toser (abrir el globo de golpe), si no poniamos la mano delante, expandía todos los gérmenes (los papelitos).

Jobs

As part of our unit on jobs, the 5 year olds are learning about doctors. Here is a video of a silly song we are learning!
