Wizard of Oz

The 5 year olds have been busy working on the story "The Wizard of Oz".
They have done many activities:

Literacy Table: Jolly Phonics Phase Three Board Game.
Writing Table: Character Cards and Sentences.
Maths Table: Scarecrow Game.
Science Table: Tornado Drawing.
Creative Table: Shapes.
Construction Table: Re-telling the Story.

They have been working very hard to practice their speaking skills. Well done!

Sleeping Beauty

The four year olds have been learning the story of "Sleeping Beauty".
We have been writing lists, acting out the story with a song, and making mini-books. Here are some photos.

Los niños/as de 4 años están aprendiendo el cuento de "La Bella durmiente".
Han estado escribiendo listas, representando el cuento con una canción y haciendo mini-libros. Aqui tenéis algunas fotos.

The 3 year olds are learning about Snow White. Here are some photos of them acting out the story.

5 Year Olds. Library.

Every Wednesday, the 5 year olds go to the Library.

This term we are focusing on title, author, parts of a story, characters, high frequency words, and opinions.

We begin by reading a story together.

Then we complete the chart. This is quite difficult sometimes as we need to think about words we know that can be used to express what happens, where, and when in English. 

Then we describe the main characters.

Then we count a high frequency word, such as: I, and, we, she, to, etc.

Then we rate the book. Usually we give the book 5 stars!

Then we find out count the high frequency word individually.

These activities are designed to achieve some of the objectives in the Integrated Curriculum such as:

•  Understand how books work: cover, title, author. Be able to identify “favourite” authors (Eric Carle, John Burningham, Spot books by Eric Hill, Maisy books by Lucy Cousins, etc.)

• Recognise with growing ease a large number of common words/phrases in Big Books and class readers and worksheets

• Be able to recognise between 10 and. 30 of the most common high frequency words.

• Begin to develop word attack skills using: known words, phonetical awareness , and other cues( e.g. the context and pictures.)

• Show pleasure and confidence in the development of reading and writing skills.

Cada miércoles los niños y niñas de 5 años van a la biblioteca.

Este trimestre nos hemos centrado en: título, autor, parte del cuento, personajes, palabras que aparecen con mayor frecuencia y opiniones.

Comenzamos leyendo el cuento juntos.

Lego completamos un cuadro. Esto es bastante difícil, a veces, porque tenemos que pensar en las palabras que conocemos y que pueden utilizarse para expresar lo que ocurre, donde sucede y cuándo, en inglés por supuesto.

Después describimos a los personajes principales.

Más tarde contamos las palabras más frecuentes tales como: I, and, we, she ,to, etc…

Luego  puntuamos el libro. Normalmente les damos 5 estrellas.

Después buscamoss las palabras más  frecuentes que hemos contando antes  pero individualmente.

Estas actividades están diseñadas para conseguir algunos de los objetivos del Curriculum Integrado tales como:

• Comprender el trabajo con los libros:  título, autor. Ser capaces de identificar autores favoritos: (Eric Carle, John Burningham, Spot books by Eric Hill, Maisy books by Lucy Cousins, etc.)
• Reconocer en grado creciente un gran número de palabras y frases ma´s usuales en libros gigantes, libros de aula y fichas de actividades.
• Ser capaces de reconocer entre 10 y 30 palabras de uso más frecuente.
• Comenzar a desarrollar habilidades para reconocer palabras utilizando el uso de palabras  conocidas, conocimientos fonéticos y otros. ( Por ejemplo: el contexto y los dibujos)
• Mostrar  placer y confianza en el desarrollo de las habilidades en lectura y escritura
