Magnets.

The 4 and 5 year olds are learning about magnets for the science project.

The 5 year olds are doing different activities:
Science table: testing objects to see if they are magnetic and completing a report.
Maths table: fishing with magnets.
Creative table: cut and paste magnet activity.
Writing table: writing useful vocabulary.
Games table: creating magnetic words with the magnetic letters.

The 4 year olds answered the question "what do we want to know about magnets?"
Angela: do magnets stick to elephants?
Pablo L: do magnets stick to dinosaurs?
Gloria: do magnets stick to tigers?
Adrian: do magnets stick to snowmen?
Nieves: do magnets stick to giraffes?
Angel Manuel: do magnets stick to metal robots?
Irene: do magnets stick to pipes?

We decided to find out if magnets stick to animals. Sergio and Hector J both said that magnets don't stick to animals because they are made of meat and bones, a continuation of yesterday's conversation. We then thought of how we could test this. It is very difficult to bring elephants, dinosaurs, tigers and giraffes to school! We tried to think of other things that are made of meat and bones....suddenly we realised that WE ARE!! We passed a magnet around the circle to see if it stuck to us, but it didn't! We then came to the conclusion that magnets don't stick to animals, because they don't stick to people!

We then played a game of fishing with the magnets. We had to try and get the magnet on the paperclip, because magnets stick to clips, not paper. The children really enjoyed this activity!

Tomorrow the investigations continue!

Shadows: what do we know?

Today the 3 year olds began learning about shadows. Some children complained they didn't have a shadow, while others said they did.

Some of the children who think they have a shadow are:
Mario, Lucas, Nacho, Alex, Cristian, Eloy, Andrea, Miguel, Adriana, Alberto, Victor, Lucia, Jorge, Adrian, Nerea, Alejandro, Blanca, Iker, Netsanet, Raul A, Eva and Jimena.

Some of the children who think they don't have a shadow are:
Gonzalo, Carlos H, Elena, Vera, Laura, Nora, Dakota, Carlos V and Sanabil.

Many children chose not to answer!
Some further interesting comments were:

Alberto: When the sun comes out, shadows appear.
David: shadows are black.
Alejandro: they are made by the sun.

We are going to investigate shadows over the next few weeks.

Today the 4 and 5 year olds began to learn about magnets.

Here are some responses to the question we asked: WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT MAGNETS?
4 year olds:

Irene: they stick to drawers.
Elena, Hector J, Jorge and Marta: they stick to the fridge.
Carla: Cranes have a magnet, they stick to things made of metal.
Clara C: they look like horseshoes.
Alejandro, Angel Manuel: they stick to metal/iron.
Gloria: some toys have magnets.

There was a very interesting discussion on whether or not magnets stick to elephants, but Sergio and Angel Manuel explained that elephants are made of meat and bones, so therefore, do not stick to magnets.

The 5 year olds also made some interesting comments:

Ivan: they can pick up things made of iron.
Carla: they stick to things.
Natalia: they can pick up metallic things that have fallen down.
Oscar: they are strong.
Ismael: when they get close to the fridge, they stick.
Victor: they can pick up coins.
Adrian: they can pick up metal plates.
Irene: they can stick to other magnets.

During the next two weeks we will be experimenting with magnets and their properties. It should be lots of fun!

Hoy los niños y niñas de 4 y 5 años han empezado a aprender sobre magnetismo.

Aqui tenéis algunas de sus respuestas a la pregunta: ¿QUÉ SABEMOS DE MAGNETISMO/IMANES?

4 AÑOS:

Irene: se pegan a los cajones.

Elena, Héctor J, Jorge y Marta: se pegan al frigorífico.

Carla: las grúas tienen imán, se pegan a las cosas hechas de metal.

Clara C: parecen herraduras.

Alejandro y Angel Manuel: se pegan al metal , al hierro.

Gloria: algunos juguetes tienen imanes.

Ha habido un interesante debate sobre si los imanes se pegan a los elefantes o no, pero Sergio y Angel Manuel nso han explicado que los elefantes están hechos de carne y huesos, asi que no se pueden pegar a ellos los imanes.

Los de 5 años han hechos también comentarios interesantes:

Iván: pueden coger cosas que están hechas de hierro.

Carla: se pegan a las cosas.Natalia: pueden coger objetos metálicos que se han caido.
Oscar: son fuertes.
Ismael: cuando están cerca del frigorífico se pegan.
Víctor: se pueden coger monedas.
Adrian: se pueden coger platos de metal
Irene: se pueden pegar a otros imanes.

Durante las próximas semanas haremos experimentos sobre imanes y sus propiedades. Será muy divertido.

This week we are celebrating "peace week". We are learning to say how we feel, because it's important to share our feelings with each other, and solve our problems through conversation, in a non-violent way.
You can practice the song at home, and ask the children "how are you?"
They can answer "I'm happy, sad, tired, hungry, thirsty, cold, hot or angry".

Esta semana estamos celebrando "La semana de la paz". Estamos aprendiendo a decir cómo nos sentimos, porque es importante compartir nuestros sentimientos con los demás, y resolver los problemas a traves del diálogo y de una manera no violenta.

Podéis practicar esta canción en casa y preguntarle a los niños/as: "¿cómo te sientes?".

Ellos pueden responder: " Estoy feliz, triste, cansado, hambriento, sediento, tengo frio, calor o estoy enfadado".

MAKING ICE.

The 5 years olds conducted an experiment about ice.
First, we discussed what we need: water.
Then, we discussed how to make it: put water in the freezer.
Then we discussed how much time it would take to change into ice. Some very interesting theories, from 1 minute, to 100 hours!

Then the fun began! We poured water into small cups, very carefully so we didn't spill any. Then we chose a colour: red, blue or yellow. We added one drop of food colouring to our cup, and then mixed it with a toothpick.
Very slowly and carefully, we walked up to the staff room to put the cups in the freezer. Then we looked at the time so we could see how long the water took to freeze. After 1 hour and 20 minutes, the water was half frozen, but not completely. After two hours we had ice! Irene and Rocio both said it would take 2 hours and they were right! Good guessing!

HACIENDO HIELO

Los niños/as de 5 años realizan un experimento sobre hielo.

Primero debatieron lo que se necesitaba: agua.

Luego como hacer el hielo: poner el agua en el congelador.

Después debatieron cuanto tiempo tardaría en convertirse en hielo. Hubo interesantes teorías que iban desde 1 minuto a 100 horas.
Más tarde empezó lo divertido. Vertimos agua en vasitos con mucho cuidado de no verter nada. Después cada uno eligió un color: rojo, azul o amarillo. Añadimos unas gotas de colorante alimenticio en cada vasito y mezclamos con un palillo.

Muy lentamente y con mucho cuidado, subimos hasta la sala de profesores para poner los vasitos en el congelador. Luego miramos la hora para saber cuanto tiempo tarda el agua en convertirse en hielo. Después de 1 hora y 20 minutos la mitad del agua estaba congelada, pero no totalmente. Tras 2 horas ¡teníamos hielo!. Irene y Rocío dijeron ambas que tardaría 2 horas y tenían razón.

Today, we collected the ice and continued experimenting. We put yellow and blue together to make green, yellow and red together to make orange, and red and blue to make purple (although we added 2 red, because the blue was stronger). The ice took a long time to melt, so we helped by using our warm fingers to melt the coloured water faster.

The children really enjoyed the science experiment, and learnt how to make ice!

Hoy recogimos el hielo y continuamos experiemntando. Pusimos el hielo amarillo y el azul juntos para hacer verde, amarillo y rojo para hacer naranja y rojo y azul para hacer morado (aunque añadimos 2 hielos rojos porque el azul era más fuerte). El hielo tardo bastante en derretirse,asi que ayudamos usando nuestros dedos calentitos para derretir el agua coloreada más rápidamente.

Los niños/as dsifrutaron realmente mucho con este experimento de ciencias y aprendieron como hacer hielo .

The 3 year olds have been busy learning about winter.
We did an experiment to learn about ice and melting. First, we passed an ice cube around the circle, which was very cold and very slippery! Then we tried picking up rice with our warm hands. It was easy, so then we tried putting our hands in ice for 30 seconds (which was REALLY COLD!), we dried our hands and tried to pick up the rice. It was a little more difficult because our fingers were numb!

Then we tried putting an ice cube on the heater, and one in the sun to see which melted faster. The one on the heater was much faster!!

Then we put coloured ice cubes on white paper, so we could see the colour melting into the paper.

We finished off the lesson by watching a small part of "happy feet", a movie with lots and lots of snow and dancing penguins. Well done to Lucas for completing the challenge of looking for a winter movie!

The children thouroughly enjoyed the activities, and learnt a lot about ice and heat!

Los niños/as de 3 años están muy ocupados aprendiendo sobre el invierno.

Hicimos un experimento para aprender sobre el hielo y como se derrite. Primero pasamos un hielo a cada uno de los niños sentados en círculo; estaba muy frio y era escurridizo. Luego intentamos coger arroz con nuestras manos templadas. Fue muy fácil, asi que lo intentamos tras poner nuestras manos en hielo 30 segundos ( que estaba realmente muy frio). Nos secamos las manos e intentamos coger el arroz. Fue mucho más dificil porque neustros dedos estaban muy frios y con poca sensibilidad.

Luego probamos poniendo un cubito de hielo encima del radiador y otro al sol para ver cual se derretía antes. El del radiador se derritió mucho antes.

También pusimos cubitos de hielo de colores sobre papel blanco, para ver el color derretido sobre el papel.

Terminamos la clase viendo un trocito de la película "Happy feet", uan película con mucha , mucha nieve y pingüinos danzarines. Bien hecho Lucas que resolvió el reto de buscar una película sobre el invierno y gracias a su mamá que nos dejó la película.

Los niños/as dsifrutaron muy seriamente de estas actividades y aprendieron mucho sobre el hielo y el calor.

Morning routine

The 5 year olds are really progressing with the new classroom methodology, where they work in groups at different activity areas.

Every Monday, 5 'teachers' are named. This is done in alphabetical order, so everyone gets a turn! The 'teachers' then choose their groups.

Los niños/as de 5 años están progresando mucho con la nueva metodología de la clase, donde trabajan en grupos en diferentes áreas de actividades.

Cada lunes "5 profesores" son nombrados. Esto se hace por orden alfabético para que todos tengan su turno. Los profesores eligen a los componentes de su grupo.

It is the teacher's job to collect the materials needed for the activity, and make sure they leave the tables tidy at the end of class, but most importantly, they encourage their group to speak English as much as possible!

Es el profesor el que recoge todo el material que necesitan para la actividad y se aseguran de que dejan las mesas ordenadas al final de la clase, pero lo más importante ellos se encargan de que en su grupo se hable en inglés lo máximo posible.

It's great to see the children working together and taking interest in their learning.

We love reading and we think it's great that the three kings have given some children English story books this year!

Nos encanta leer y nos parece estupendo que lsoreyes Magos les hayan traido libros eni nglés al os niños/as este año.

Angela showed us her book "The very hungry caterpillar", by Eric Carle, which we read together. It even came with a CD to read along to the story!

There is a copy of this book in the school library, available to borrow if you want to read it at home.

5 Little Snowmen song

Here is a song about 5 little snowmen. The 3 year olds can talk about the colours green, orange, blue, yellow and red, and make a happy face! The 4 year olds are learning to describe the clothing, for example: yellow hat, green scarf and blue gloves. The 5 year olds are learning about water science and this week will do a freezing experiment!

Aqui tenéis la canción "5 pequeños muñecos de nieve". Los niños/as de 3 años pueden hablar sobre los colores: verde, naranja, azul , amarillo y rojo y poner cara de felices. WINTER

Los niños /as de 3 años estan aprendiendo sobre WINTER- INVIERNO. Escuchando la canción "Five little snowmen" los niños/as de 3 años B quisieron saber qué pasaba con los snowmen (muñecos de nieve), por qué desaparecían. Nos pusimos a pensar y recordaron que habían escuchado la palabra SUN en la canción, rápidamente dedujeron que el sol le hacía desaparecer y Nacho digo una palabra dificil de pronunciar " se derriten", en inglés "melted it". Claro, siguieron pensando, el sol calienta mucho. Empezaron a hablar así: "el sun melted it a los snowmen". Nos encantan que hablen así, mezclando el español y el inglés porque están interiorizando las palabras inglesas en su vocabulario.
Les lanzamos un reto: en casa tenían que comprobar si eso era verdad, debían realizar el experimento y verificar si lo que habíamos pensado era cierto.
Hoy Vera, Nora y Dakota nos han contado como lo han hecho. Vera en casa de su tía Celia, Nora en casa de su buela María y Dakota en su casa pusieron hielo en un plato (Dakota en el suelo) al sol y lo que ocurrió es que el hielo se convirtió en AGUA. Nos ha parecido maravilloso.
Mañana tienen un nuevo reto: tienen que buscar el título en inglés de una película en la que hay mucha, mucha nieve. Por supuesto necesitan vuestra ayuda.
El viernes en clase realizaremos experimentos con el hielo y seguro que haremos interesantes
descubrimientos. Os lo contaremos.

The children in 3A and 3 B are learning about winter. Listening to the song "Five little snowmen", 3 B wanted to know what happened to the snowmen, why they disappeared. We got thinking and remembered that they had heard the word SUN in the song, and quickly deduced that the sun made them disappear and Nacho said "se derriten", (in English "it melted.") Of course, they thought, the sun gets very hot. They began to speak in spanglish: "el sun melted it a los snowmen" We love it when the children mix Spanish and English because they are internalizing the English words in their vocabulary.

We challenged the children to conduct an experiment at home and see if what we thought was true.

Today Vera, Nora and Dakota told us that they have done the experiment. Vera at her Aunt Celia's house, Nora at her grandma Mary's house and Dakota at home put ice in a dish (Dakota on the floor) and then in the sun and what happened is that the ice became water. Amazing!!

Tomorrow they have a new challenge: they have to find the English title of a film in which there is lots and lots of snow. Of course they need your help.
On Friday in class we will do some more experiments with ice and should make some interesting discoveries. We'll let you know the results!

Twelve Days of Christmas

Today, the 4 and 5 year olds sang a welcome song for the christmas party. They all looked very elegant in their clothes!

Then the first year primary students danced the "penguin polka". They also did a great job!

The highlight of the afternoon was the year six students performing their adapatation of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, which was adapted by Monica, the P.E teacher. The play was brilliant, and finished with a song by the year six and year two students.

To finish the afternoon, the teachers sang a traditional christmas carol "The twelve days of Christmas". Here is the video so you can sing along at home!

Hoy, los niños/as de 4 y 5 años cantaron una canción de bienvenida para la fiesta de Navidad. Todos estaban muy elegantes con sus trajes.

Luego los niños/as de 1º de primaria bailaron la "polka del pingüino" . Ellos también hicieron un gran trabajo.

La actuación estelar de la tarde fueron los niños/as de 6º con un adaptación de "El cuento de Navidad"de Charles Dicken, adapatada por la profesora de Educación Física, Mónica. La obra fue brillante y terminaron con una canción con los niños/as de 2º.

Para terminar la tarde los profesores cantaron el tradicional villancico "Los doce días de la Navidad". Aqui tenéis el video para practicar en casa.

Autumn park

Today the four year olds and three year olds (group A) went on an excursion to the "autumn park". The children walked in pairs across the street and to the park, where they collected leaves to play with and throw in the air! Then they collected more leaves to bring back to school. They also ran on the grass and from tree to tree. Then they went to the playground, where they had a FANTASTIC time on the slides, swings and train. They had a great time!

Hoy lo sniñso/as de 4 y 3 años (grupo A) fueron de excursión para observar el parque en otoño. Los niños/as caminaron en parejas cruzando la calle y el llegaron al parque, donde recogieron hojas para jugar con ellas y lanzarlas al aire. Recogieron mas hojas para traerlas al colegio. También corrieron por la hierba y de árbol a árbol. Después fueron a la zona de juegos donde se divirtieron mucho en los toboganes, columpios y en el tren. ¡Lo pasaron muy bien!

The five year olds have been learning about the body and the 5 senses through experimenting at the science table, making faces with smelly playdough, number and shape rubbings, body board game, body dominoes, labelling body parts and writing the names of body parts. The children really enjoyed this unit, where we began each lesson by saying things that we can see, smell, hear, taste and touch. It was a great chance to practice their vocabulary!

Los niños/as de 5 años han estado aprendiendo sobre el cuerpo y los cinco sentidos realizando experiementos en la mesa de ciencias, haciendo caras con plastilina olorosa, números , formas, juego del cuerpo, dominos del cuerpo, etiquetando las partes del cuerpo y escribiendo los nombres. We have been talking about children's rights, in particular, the right to have a name. The three year olds decorated their names on coloured paper, and the four year olds wrote their names on the interactive whiteboard, creating artistic masterpieces!

The five year olds are reading in English! First, they practice letter sounds in pairs and then read the words. They have started reading simple story books and I am very proud of their progress!

To practice at home, you can sing the jolly phonics songs on the right hand side of the blog, and I have put a link to a phonics website "starfall", which has some great stories to read online. It is a website with American English pronunciation, but is a valuable tool for reading practice. I hope you enjoy the activities.

¡Los niños/as de 5 años leemos en inglés! Primero practicamos los sonidos de las letras y luego leemos las palabras. Han empezado leyendo libros con cuentos sencillos y ¡estoy estoy muy orgullosa de sus progresos!

Es una página con pronunciación de inglés americano pero es una herramienta válida para practicar la lectura. Espero que disfrutéis de las actividades.

The four and five year old children are enjoying their experiences at the science table. Learning to use the magnifying glasses properly is challenging, but highly rewarding when the children can observe the objects in detail. When they draw the objects, they are learning concepts about art, shapes and sizes. The children are also learning how to describe things in English, using adjectives such as big, small, long, short, rough and smooth.

For Halloween, the children have been very lucky to have real animal bones on the science table. A very big thank you to Gloria's father, Antonio, who has made this possible. The children have been identifying the bones with pictures of animal skeletons to help them, and then drawing them.

Los niños/as de 4 y 5 años han disfrutado experimentando en la mesa de ciencias. Aprender a usar las lupas adecuadamente es una gran oportunidad, pero lo mas satisfactorio para los niños/as es poder observar los objetos con detalle. Cuando dibujan los objetos, están aprendiendo conceptos sobre arte, formas y tamaños. Los niños/as están aprendiendo también a describir objetos en inglés, utilizando adjetivos como: grande, pequeño, largo, corto, rugoso y liso.

En Halloween los niños/as han tenido la suerte de tener huesos reales de animales. Gracias al padre de Gloria, Antonio, que lo ha hecho posible. Los niños/as han relacionado los huesos con dibujos de esqueletos de los animales para ayudarles a identificarlos y luego poder dibujarlos. Hemos tenido huesos de vaca, de caballo, de perro y de oveja.

The five year olds have been busy with the topic of Autumn. We are learning a new hello song, a poem about October, and a new song about clothes. The activity centres this week have been:

Now that the children are used to the different centres, the focus is on speaking as much English as possible! This week Jorge, Ismael, Natalia and Rocio have won prizes for speaking English in the activity centres. Who will win prizes next week?

The four year olds have been busy for the last two weeks with 'back to school'. This year, we have changed things a bit, and are using activity centres as a way to practice speaking English. There are 5 centres including: writing, creative, maths, small world and challenge.

The children change centres on a rotating basis and each group has a teacher, who makes sure everybody speaks English!

Some activities in this topic involved writing a list of school objects, making plasticine school objects, playing with a felt-board school, counting the numbers on the dice to colour the school bus, writing and drawing objects on the mini-whiteboards and decorating magic hats.

Los niños y niñas de 4 años han estado muy ocupados las últimas dos semanas con "La vuelta al cole". Este año hemos cambiado un poquito la organización del aula, estamos utilizando "centros de actividades" como una manera de practicar inglés. Hay cinco centros: escritura, creativivdad, matemáticas, pequeño mundo y desafios.

Los niños/as cambian de centro de actividad de forma rotativa y en cada grupo hay un "teacher" ( maestro/a) que tiene la misión de comprobar que todos/as hablen en inglés.

Wombat Stew

This is the 4 year olds and their version of "Wombat Stew", a classic Australian tale of a naughty dingo who wants to make wombat stew! The friendly animals: platypus, emu, lizard, echidna and koala add extra ingredients, and when the dingo tastes the stew... YUCK! The dingo runs away and the wombat is safe!

The children say:
"Hello Dingo"
"Hello platypus"
"What are you doing?"
"I'm making wombat stew"
"I know... you need mud! In the stew, in the stew, in the stew"
And dingo sings: "Wombat stew, wombat stew, crunchy munchy for my lunchy, wombat stew!"

The platypus adds mud.
The emu adds feathers.
The lizard adds flies.
The echidna adds bugs (caterpillars, spiders, bees and insects).
The koala adds gumnuts.

The children love acting the story, especially singing the song!

Estos son los niños/as de 4 años y su versión de "Wombat Stew! (Estofado de wombat), un cuento clásico australiano de un dingo malvado que quería hacer un wombat stew. Los simpáticos animales: platypus, emu, lizard y echidna (nombre de animales australianos) le van proponiendo añadir ingredientes extras y cuando dingo prueba el guiso: YUCK! dingo sale corriendo, de lo malísimo que está, y wombat se salva.

Los niños dicen este diálogo:

- Hola dingo.

- Hola platypus .

- ¿Qué estás haciendo?

- Estoy haciendo estofado de wombat.

- Ya sé, necesitas barro,!. En el estofado , en el estofado...

Y dingo canta: wombat stew, wombat stew, crunchy, munchy for my lunchy, wombat stew.

El platypus añade barro.

El echidna añade bichos ( gusanos, arañas, abejas e insectos).

El koala añade gumnuts (fruto de lso eucaliptos).

A los niños/as les encanta interpretar el cuento y especialmente cantar la canción.

En una de neustras sesiones de clase salimos al patio para realizar nuestro propio "wombat stew" y recogimos tierra para hacer barro, insectos, hojas, frutos de los árboles, etc... pero ¡no nos atrevimos a probarlo!. Eso si cantamos la canción y salvamos a wombat.

In May, we had a visit by the forest firemen. We went to the library to hear them talk about forest fires and how the firemen put out the fires. We saw their uniforms and asked lots of questions! Then we went outside and looked at and used some of the equipment. It was a lot of fun and we learnt a lot!
En mayo, tuvimos la visita de los bomberos forestales. Fuimos a la biblioteca para escucharlos hablar sobre los fuegos en los bosques y cómo los bomberos consiguen apagarlos. The four year olds have been learning the story of sleeping beauty as part of the carnival celebrations. They have learnt a song which tells the story. Here you have Celia as the princess, Natalia as the wicked fairy and Guillermo as the handsome prince. Everybody else is the forest! Here are the words to the song:

Los niños/as de 4 años han estado aprendiendo el cuento de "La Bella Durmiente" como parte de la celebración del Carnaval. Han aprendido una canción que cuenta la historia. Aquí tenéis a Celia como la princesa, a Natalia como el hada mala y a Guillermo como el guapo príncipe. Todos/as erámos el bosque. Aquí está la letra de la canción:

SCARECROW BISCUITS

Today we have been busy in the kitchen! The 5 year old children are learning "The Wizard of Oz", and one of the characters is the Scarecrow, who doesn't have a brian. He goes with Dorothy down the yellow brick road, so the Wizard of Oz can give him a brain.
Today, in the kitchen, we made scarecrow biscuits. This is what we did:

1. We washed our hands.

2. We made icing with: butter, milk, sugar and vanilla.

3. We spread the icing on the biscuit.

4. We added the face: eyes, nose, mouth and hair. Finally we added the hat.

And this was the result. They were delicious!

Hoy hemos tenido taller de cocina. Los niños/as de 5 años estamos aprendiendo el cuento "El mago de Oz" y uno de los personajes es el espantapájaros que no tienen cerebro. Acompaña a Dorothy en su camino de losetas amaraillas para que el Mago de Oz le de un cerebro. Hoy, en la cocina del comedor, hemos hecho galletitas de espantapájaros. Os contamos el proceso:

1.- Nos hemos lavado bien las manos para cocinar.

2.-Hemos preparado la crema con: matequilla,leche, azúcar glsass y vainilla.

3.- Extendimos la crema en la galleta.

4. Hemos puesto los detalles de la cara: ojos, nariz, boca y pelo. Y por último el sombrero.

Y este ha sido el resultado. ¡Lo mejor es que estaban riquísimas!

LA PATARRONA. IT IS CARNIVAL

Patarrona es una muñeca de 5 piernas que cada día nos deja un mensaje y nos dice de qué nos tenemos que disfrazar. Todos los días a las 9 saludamos a Patarrona y buscamos el mensaje que tiene escondido en una de sus piernas.
El lunes tuvimos que traer calcetines de diferentes colores y el martes los pelos a lo loco: con muchas coletas, de colores, con peluca... ¿qué será mañana?

"Patarrona" is a five legged doll. Every day she gives us a message telling us how to get dressed for the next day, in preperation for carnival! At nine o´clock, in the morning we look for the message which is hidden under one of her legs.

ENFERMERA/NURSE

We also had a visit from Pilar, the mother of Daniel (5 year group) who is a nurse in the operating room. She started by telling us a story about an animal who didn't know what she wanted to be when she grew up. Her friends wanted to be teachers and vets, but she didn't know what she wanted to be. One day, her friend got sick and she looked after him, and in the end decided to become a nurse! It was a very beautiful story, the really enjoyed it! Then, she showed us the tools and instruments she uses in her job, and we got to try on surgery masks, hats and gloves. She showed us how to put a bandage on too!

También nos visitó Pilar, la madre de Daniel del grupo de 5 años que es enfermera de quirófano. Comenzó contándonos una historia sobre un animal que no sabía lo que queria ser de mayor. Sus amigos querían ser profesores o veterianrios, pero ella no sabía que aún qué quería ser. Un día su amigo se puso enfermo y ella le cuidó y al final decidió que quería ser enfermera. Fue una bonita historia con la que dsifrutamos. Luego nos mostró los utensilios que ella usa en su trabajo y nos pusimos las máscarillas, los gorros y los guantes de quirófano. También nos enseñó como poner vendas.

We also had a visit from two fireman! The three year olds have been working very hard learning about fireman, so it was fantastic to meet some real ones! Víctor, the father of Victor (three year old infantil class) and Juan José, the father of Nerea (4 year old infantil class) came to show us what they do in their job.
Some of the children were surprised and a little scared when they entered the library and found a doll laying on the ground! It was big enough to be a real person! The children calmed down when they realised it was only a doll, and Victor and Nerea introduced their fathers (without the helmets on!)
They showed us how they use a special tank full of oxygen to help them breathe when they go into a fire, and they showed us what a rescue looks like as they took the doll out to safety!
They showed us the special clothes they wear to protect them from the heat and flames, including gloves, jacket, trousers and boots. Some of us tried on the helmets and they gave us some very good advice:
When we see a fire, tell an adult and get out. That is all we have to do, we must never try to put it out or play with it, because it's very dangerous.

¡Nos visitaron dos bomberos! Los niños/as de 3 años habían estado trabajando mucho sobre los bomberos, asi que fue fantástico encontrarnos con unos reales. Víctor, el padre de Víctor de 3 años y Juan José el padre de Nerea de 4 años, vinieron a mostranos lo que hacen en su trabajo.
Algunos niños/as se sorprendieron mucho e incluso se asustaron cuando entraron en la biblioteca y se encontraron con un muñeco tirado en el suelo. ¡Era tan grande que parecía uan persona de verdad! Los niños/as se tranquilizaron cuando vieron que era solo un muñeco, y Víctor y Nerea nos presentaron a sus padres, (con sus cascos puestos).

Nos enseñaron como usan un tanque lleno de oxígeno para ayudarles a respirar cuando entran en un fuego y nos mostraron como si fuera un rescate real lo que hacen para poner a salvo a las personas utilizando de modelo al muñeco.

Nos enseñaron las ropas especiales que llevan para protegerse del calor y de las llamas, que incluye guantes, chaqueta, pantalones y botas. Algunos nos probamos los cascos y ellos nos dieron muy buenos consejos:

- Cuando veamos un fuego tenemos que llamar a los mayores y salir fuera. Esto es todo lo que debemos hacer y nunca intentar apagarlo ni jugar con el fuego porque es muy peligroso.
